Its energy embodies the stability of earth and the warmth and energy of light. it is thought to calm emotional unrest, instilling a sense of optimism and it can brighten states of depression, by allowing one to see the light at the end of the tunnel or the path through.
Tiger Eye is a fine grained, fibrous form of quartz, a member of the crocidolite family. It has variegated parallel layers ranging from black, with every shade of golden brown and yellow. It can be translucent, although it is most often opaque. When it is cut and polished on a certain angle it reflects light, creating the striped effect of a glowing eye; known as chatoyancy.
Other varieties of the chatoyant quartz occur in red, blue, green and cream they may appear to be just like tiger eye but are considered separate gems, as the fibres of quartz are twisted instead of straight. These varieties are even rarer than tiger eye, similar colours are often obtained by irradiating the golden variety with heat. All members of the crocidolite family belong to the silicate group of minerals and form according to the trigonal crystal system, they have a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
