Rhodonite is an altered form of marble. It is an important ore containing up to 48% manganese and ranges in colour from soft dusty pink to the more prized intense pink shades. It can also display striking (lead-zinc) black lines and markings. It has a hardness of 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs Scale and forms according to a triclinic crystal system
