8 Steps to Loving The Shit Out Of Yourself

by Kathryn Ottobrino

As a life coach, helping women to love themselves is a big part of my mission. If there’s one thing that my work has taught me, it’s that self-love isn’t something we’re born with, it’s something we need to work on each and every day.

So, here are my eight simple steps that you can take right now to start loving the shit out of yourself!

Get enough sleep

I truly believe that self-care starts with a good nights sleep. If you aren’t well rested, you simply aren’t going to be your best self. If you need to, give yourself a bedtime – and make sure you stick to it!

Nourish your body

Ever noticed how when you eat rubbish, you feel rubbish? And then you go and eat more rubbish? It’s an awful cycle; I’ve been there too! But honestly, isn’t going to get you any closer to achieving self-love. Make a point to eat mindfully and nourish your body with the right foods. It’ll do a world of difference.

Be kind to yourself

So often, women seem to be their own worst critic, when really we should be our own best friends! The next time you go to think something bad about yourself, stop think: would I say this to my best friend?

Give your body endorphin rushes

For an instant pick me up, the best thing to do is to get outside and get your body moving. It doesn’t have to be anything strenuous, even a simple walk in the sunshine will do the trick!

Take up a hobby

Is the majority of your time taken up by work, family and other responsibilities? Consider taking up a new hobby doing something you genuinely enjoy – something special that’s just for you!

Schedule in ‘me time’

In amongst our busy schedules, it’s harder than ever to make time for ourselves. Make it a priority to schedule in some ‘me time’ – even if it’s a week away!

Process your emotions

If self-love is something you want to achieve, it’s important that you commit to processing your emotions rather than pushing them aside. Consider starting a journal, or talking to a trusted friend or coach about what’s holding you back.

Surround yourself with good people

Ultimately, the single most important thing you can do to help you on your journey to self-love is to surround yourself with good people who will lift you up and support you on your mission.

Kathryn will be holding a The Art Of Self-Love workshop on May 13.
